Features Released for Winter 2011

What’s New for MyAccountingLab®, MyEconLab®, MyFinanceLab®, and MyOMLab®

  • Item Analysis for Combined Courses
  • Item Analysis Exports are now available for course groups from both the Quick Exports and Advanced Exports pages. If a coordinator-instructor exports Item Analysis for a course group, he/she can get a summary of student performance across all course sections in the course group as well as student scoring details for each student. Question metrics (difficulty, median time, correct on first try) are also included in Advanced Exports.

  • Stop and Resume Tests/Quizzes
  • Instructors can choose to allow students to stop taking a test or quiz and return at a later time to complete it. If they select this setting, the test/quiz is restricted so that students can see only one question at a time and cannot change previously answered questions or look ahead. Students must answer a question completely before they can move on. Students returning to a timed test will have only the remaining time to complete the test; the clock does not “start over.”

Upcoming Features for Summer 2011

MyOMLab, the leading Operations Management technology, is about to get even better! This summer, MyOMLab will be updated with the new features that you have been asking for! Read below to learn about the new features and the release details. This new release is filled with easy to use features that give students more "I Get It" moments, while providing you more options and flexibility for your course!

Please do not schedule any tests or other assignments during the release. MyOMLab courses will be temporarily unavailable during the upgrade.

Notify Lab Administrators

Starting with this release, MyOMLab will require the use of the Adobe Flash Player version 10.1 or later. (Earlier versions of Flash will no longer be supported.) If you are teaching with MyOMLab for the first time, please refer your computer lab administrators to the installation instructions on the Pearson Player Update page.

Also, for the MyOMLab instructors who want to take advantage of the Pearson LockDown Browser (powered by Respondus) in their course, please be sure your computer lab administrator downloads and installs the software for this enhanced security feature on the Pearson Player Update page.

New Features

  • Security Enhancements for Testing

Instructors will be able to use the Pearson LockDown Browser, powered by Respondus, so that students taking tests in MyOMLab will not be able to access their desktop or any external website.
  • Pearson eText Integration

Courses that have published in 2011 will have full eText integration with increased ease of use and enhanced features, such as the ability for instructors to publish and share their annotations and highlights with students in their courses.
  • Assign Testbank Questions from Other Books

Instructors will be able to assign testbank questions from other books. This will increase the number of testbank questions available for homework and exams and give instructors more variety when choosing questions to assign.
  • Preview Image of Available Questions

While creating assignments, instructors will see a "thumbnail" image of each question as they move their cursor over the question ID or name. The question objective is shown at the top of each thumbnail image. This will allow instructors to more easily see questions while assigning homework.

Features Released for Winter 2010 / 11

On December 27, 2010, MyOMLab was updated with all new features! Read below to learn about these new features. This new release has helped instructors and students have more "I Get It" Moments, and has provided more options and flexibility for MyOMLab courses!

New Features

  • "Ask the Publisher" Link in "Ask My Instructor" Email

Instructors can easily notify the content team of any irregularities with specific questions by using the "Ask the Publisher" functionality in the "Ask My Instructor" emails they receive from students.
  • Mobile Dashboard

This initial release of a standalone mobile app allows students to log in and review information from the dashboard of their courses: announcements, assignments, results, and progress bars for completed work. This app for iPhones, iPads, and Android phones is designed to promote effective study habits. It does not allow students to complete assignments on their mobile devices.

Features Released for Summer 2010

On June 27th 2010, MyOMLab was updated with new easy-to-use features that give students more "I Get It" moments, while providing you more options and flexibility for your course!

New Features

  • Freeze Correct Answers

When choosing the settings in homework, instructors now have the option to freeze the correct answers, so that after each try, the student will only have to edit what they have answered incorrectly.
  • New “Dashboard” Display for Students

A new home page – based on the current Announcements page – uses simple bar charts, an improved calendar, and other visual motivators to let students know their current grade performance in the course, how much work they still need to complete, and when their upcoming assignments are due. Instructors decide to show or hide depending on their preferences.
  • Automated Late Due Date Grading

Allow students to submit homework past the due date by setting a penalty for late submissions. Deductions can be applied in points or percentages and per day from the final score. Instructors can specify a final submission date, beyond which assignments can no longer be submitted. Assignments submitted late with a penalty will be clearly marked in the Gradebook.

Features Released for Winter 2009-10

MyOMLab is even better! On December 29, 2009, MyOMLab was updated with the new features that you have been asking for. This includes the ability to set the number of tries per part, to have homework factor into the Study Plan, to hide the Study Plan altogether, and for Coordinators the ability to see results from all their member courses at once.

New Features

  • Ability to Adjust Number of Tries within Questions

Instructors can now choose the number of times students can work each answer field within a question, changing the default of three tries to any number between 1 and 99. They do this either at the question level from the Preview & Add or Remove window or at the assignment level from View Question Details.
  • Homework Affects Mastery in Study Plan

Instructors now have the option to allow Homework to affect the Study Plan. In addition, they can control which assignment types affect the Study Plan and determine mastery. On the Mastery Options page in the Study Plan Manager, they can include Homework, exclude Sample Tests or Quizzes, and specify the percentage score needed for mastery in each assignment type.
  • Ability to Hide the Study Plan

Instructors who do not use the Study Plan in their course now have the option of hiding it completely (the button is not shown). Other instructors may choose to hide the Study Plan until after students have taken a test or completed an assignment; both options can be found on the Select Coverage page in the Study Plan Manager.

Additional Product Features

Number of Attempts for Homework Questions
Instructors will be able to specify the number of times each homework question on an assignment can be attempted, from 1 to the current default of unlimited. Students are told of the number of attempts they have on the Homework Overview. This option lets instructors balance students’ ability to practice with similar exercises while preserving the integrity of the assignment.
